Session Summary
The programme commenced at 8:15 a.m. with Mrs. Olagoke introducing the Literary Renaissance Foundation (LRF) to the pupils. She explained that the foundation is committed to inspiring young boys and girls to develop a passion for reading, emphasising that “Good readers are good leaders.”
Miss Funmilayo followed up with an interactive talk on the benefits of reading. She highlighted that reading enhances academic performance and improves communication skills, which include reading, writing, listening, and speaking. She explained how all these skills can be cultivated and refined through consistent reading.
To make the session engaging, Mrs. Olagoke invited pupils from various classes to read aloud from selected books. Notably, Miss Mamudat, a Primary 6 pupil, read confidently and with remarkable clarity. Other pupils who participated were rewarded with books for their efforts.
For the Primary 1 pupils, a singing activity was conducted. The performed brilliantly and were rewarded with pencils as an incentive.
Awards Distribution:
- 3 pupils were gifted books for their reading efforts.
- 2 pupils received pens.
- 12 pencils were distributed to Primary 1 pupils.
The session concluded at 9:30 a.m. with the LRF representatives presenting three books each to the headmistresses of Immanuel Primary School 1 and 2.
Conclusion
The visit was an enlightening and impactful experience for the pupils. Many eagerly volunteered to read and participate, showcasing their enthusiasm for learning. The session reinforced the importance of reading as a critical tool for personal and academic growth.
The LRF team expressed their commitment to nurturing a reading culture among young learners and looks forward to future engagements with the school.
