LRF Visits Baptist Comprehensive College in Lagos

Session Summary

The programme commenced at 8:15 a.m. with Ogundipe Mari introducing the Literary Renaissance Foundation (LRF) to the students. She explained the meaning of the foundation’s name, breaking down the vocabulary:

Literary relates to the act and process of reading and writing. Foundation is an organisation established with the purpose of achieving certain goals.

She emphasized the foundation’s commitment to encouraging young Nigerians to reawaken the reading habit. Pupils were asked to spell the word ‘Renaissance’ and were also asked to reiterate the foundation‘s goals. Those who answered correctly were rewarded with a copy of You Will Never Walk Alone by Tejumade Oke.

Julius Topohozin continued the discussion by explaining the importance of reading. He shared that while in secondary school, he formed the habit of writing out new words and looking them up in the dictionary whenever he read a book.  He stated this has greatly enhanced his speaking and writing skills. He also encouraged the students, explaining that reading would help them stay ahead of their peers.

He then read portions of the poem to the students and asked them questions about it. Those who answered correctly were rewarded with a copy of the book.

 

Awards Distribution:

Books were given to students of Baptist Comprehensive College who answered the questions correctly. The session ended at 9:20 a.m. with the LRF representatives expressing gratitude to the school for granting them the opportunity to make a positive impact on the students.
