LRF Restructures to Boost Literacy and Digital Inclusion in Nigeria
The Literacy Renaissance Foundation (LRF) has taken a bold step toward restructuring its leadership and operational model to address Nigeria’s educational challenges more effectively. In a landmark virtual board meeting, the organisation introduced a new directorate-based structure and set a renewed focus on digital literacy, outreach expansion, and strategic collaboration nationwide.
This reorganisation marks a defining moment for LRF’s mission to combat moral and educational decline and scale its grassroots impact, particularly in underserved and digitally excluded regions.
LRF Announces New Four-Directorate Management Model
The key highlight of the meeting was the introduction of a new management model featuring four core directorates:
Strategy
Promotions
Outreach
Liaisons & Compliance
This structure, presented by Executive Director Babatunde Oladele, is designed to optimise programme delivery, decentralise decision-making, and enhance accountability. Directors are now tasked with preparing quarterly reports, developing annual budgets, and setting measurable targets for 2025 and beyond.
“We must evolve to stay effective,” Oladele said. “This new model empowers each directorate to lead with clarity, autonomy, and purpose.”
Digital Literacy and Northern Nigeria Take Centre Stage
In a deeply moving discussion, board member Dr. Samson Dawodu highlighted the ongoing shutdown of schools in northern Nigeria, calling for urgent advocacy. He committed to writing a public letter to the President, spotlighting the region’s educational crisis and promoting digital inclusion as a national priority.
LRF reaffirmed its commitment to digital penetration through:
Volunteer-driven outreach
Undergraduate recruitment in northern universities
Technology-supported reading initiatives
“Digital literacy is not a luxury—it is a right,” emphasized Dawodu.
Volunteer Engagement and Grassroots Impact
LRF board member, Olasupo Olabisi, a secondary school educator, praised the growing youth volunteer base and underscored the need for strong leadership at the local level. The board also discussed leveraging undergraduate interns to drive outreach in regions where there is a lack of consistent program presence.
Outreach efforts will remain decentralised, with local heads reporting to national directors. LRF plans to scale outreach activities across Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and new states in the coming months.
Key Action Items and Next Steps
To ensure effective execution of this new vision, the board agreed on a clear action plan:
All directors will prepare presentations for the July meeting, outlining goals and budget needs for the next six months.
Dr. Dawodu will finalise the transition of the digital penetration team.
Mrs. Tejumade Oke and Amos Akande will coordinate compliance protocols across zones.
Mari, LRF’s Administrator, will share the finalised structure document and add key members to the Volunteers Group.
The next board meeting is scheduled for the last Saturday of July 2025, focusing on progress evaluation and program acceleration.
LRF’s Long-Term Vision
The Foundation’s strategic direction is built on the idea of sustainable systems and leveraged impact. In addition to its core literacy programs, LRF is:
Launching a creative writing competition to nurture young storytellers
Strengthening its monthly book reading clubs
Exploring CSR partnerships for funding and scaling
“We want systems that work even when we’re not in the room,” said Babatunde Oladele. “The future of literacy in Nigeria must be collaborative, strategic, and digital.”
Why This Matters
As Nigeria grapples with rising youth illiteracy, regional inequality, and limited digital access, LRF’s efforts signal a timely, structured, and scalable response. The new structure offers a replicable model for other nonprofits seeking to drive impact with efficiency.
LRF invites partnerships, volunteers, and donors who share its mission to rewrite Nigeria’s literacy narrative—one community at a time.
