Session’s summary:

The LRF’s volunteers Hajia Olasupo Olabisi and Rodiyah Adegoke got Ajibode Community High School at 7.30am as scheduled and waited for the morning Assembly to be conducted, after which the students were marched into the school hall and settled down at about 8.05am.

The outreach then began, with Olabisi introducing the LRF foundation, stating its vision and mission, and engaging the students with reading out information about the foundation on a display banner.

She highlighted the significance of reading, driving it home with popular rhymes on the importance of leading. Actively participating students were awarded pens, with a total of 12 shared throughout the course of the outreach. Adegoke continued by asking the students to share why they feel it’s important to read, and their motivation for it. Her session was concluded by asking three students to read excerpts from three different books. The books were later awarded to the readers.

Six books were donated to the school itself. The LRF team promised to return with the LRF Mobile Library, an initiative designed to facilitate easy access to books and engender a healthy reading culture among secondary school students.

The 100-people capacity hall was overfilled with about 220 students from the six classes (JSS1-SSS3). The students appeared thrilled by the programme, which was then concluded with the rhymes recited earlier.
