Session Summary
The programme commenced at 7:30 a.m. with Olabisi Adegoke introducing the Literary Renaissance Foundation (LRF) to the pupils. She explained the meaning of the foundation’s name, breaking down the vocabulary:
- Literary relates to reading and writing.
- Renaissance signifies a reawakening or revival.
- Foundation is an organisation established to achieve specific goals.
She emphasized that the foundation is committed to encouraging Nigerian youth to rekindle their passion for reading. Pupils were invited to read the LRF’s vision and mission statements aloud. As some struggled with pronunciation, they were guided on correct articulation.
Nwokike Chinyere followed with an engaging talk on the benefits of reading. She highlighted that reading enhances academic performance and reiterated the well-known phrase: “Good readers are good leaders.”
To further encourage participation, Adegoke invited pupils to read aloud from a selected book. The pupil who demonstrated excellent reading skills was rewarded with the book as a gift. Additionally, pupils who correctly answered questions received pens and pencils.
Awards Distribution:
- 14 pens and 6 pencils were distributed.
- 1 pupil received a book.
The session concluded at 9:30 a.m. with the LRF representatives presenting three storybooks, two textbooks, and spelling flashcards to the school management.
The headmaster, Mr. Ojekunle, expressed his gratitude to LRF for their visit and emphasised the importance of reading. He encouraged the pupils to develop a strong reading culture, reinforcing the foundation’s message.
Conclusion
The visit was a success, as the pupils showed enthusiasm and interest in the activities. The interactive session helped reinforce the significance of reading, and the rewards served as motivation for continued engagement.
The LRF team looks forward to further collaboration with the school in promoting literacy and learning.
