Session Summary
The session began with Mrs. Adegoke introducing the Literary Renaissance Foundation to the pupils. She explained that the foundation’s mission is to nurture young people to become great leaders through reading and literacy. She defined literary as relating to reading and writing, while renaissance refers to reintroducing or reviving something forgotten. She emphasized the foundation’s commitment to rebuilding the reading culture among Nigerian pupils.
After introducing the LRF representatives, Miss Oluwafunmilayo addressed the students on the importance of reading. She highlighted how reading improves communication skills, which include reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
Mrs. Adegoke then encouraged the pupils to make reading a habit, sharing her personal experience of how early exposure to reading helped her develop strong literacy skills. She also pointed out that reading enhances memory and overall academic performance.
Miss Chinyere followed with an explanation of the foundation’s vision and mission. A pupil was invited to read the vision statement aloud, and though she faced some difficulty, she was guided through the challenging words. Another pupil read the mission statement, receiving similar assistance.
Pupils from Basic 4 and Basic 2 were then taught how to correctly pronounce difficult words. Afterward, two pupils were selected to read from storybooks, and they were awarded the books they read as a reward.
Awards Distribution:
- 8 pens
- 6 pencils and erasers
The session concluded at 12:00 p.m., with two storybooks and a textbook presented to the school’s representative teacher.
Conclusion
Both school visits were successful, with enthusiastic participation from the pupils. The interactive reading sessions provided an opportunity for the students to practice their literacy skills, while the rewards served as motivation to encourage further reading.
The LRF team looks forward to continued engagement with these schools to further promote literacy and a love for reading.
