LRF Visits The Legacy Schools Lagos

On ‘World Book Day’, 7th March 2024, the LRF  visited the Legacy Schools, Lagos, Nigeria in a bid to sensitise the children and help young people everywhere acquire a habit of reading.

The Vice Principal, Mr. Elijah Oyewo welcomed the LRF representatives and the programme commenced at 11:00 am at the school hall with over One Hundred students in attendance and Ten Teachers seated and present.

Representing the Literary Renaissance Foundation were:
1. Tejumade Abimbola Oke
2. Saviour Edet.
3. Kenneth Sunday Kalu.

The Nigerian National Anthem and the national pledge were respectfully recited and excitedly sung by the youths. This was followed by a rendition of the Legacy School’s anthem.

After several presentations by the students which also included book reading, we were formally introduced as representatives of LRF and invited to the rostrum to make our presentation.

Presentation was made by Tejumade Oke, with the aid of a projector and thereafter, the book reading of which one of the students read a book. After the reading, relevant questions were asked.
Eventually, Four Books were given away as gifts to those who gave satisfactory answers to questions asked.

Conclusively, these were excited students, and there were many excellent responses from them. The visit came to a memorable end at 12:30 pm.

Challenges

One of the challenges faced was there were not enough volunteers available to grace the event. Those who attended with were emergency volunteers, recruited from my office.

We had just two days to prepare for the visit and LRF also had another engagement on Victoria Island, Lagos. Thankfully, for both events, LRF was adequately represented. It was ‘World Book Day’ and a golden opportunity to get a foot in the door at Legacy School, Akowonjo. It was our first visit to Legacy Schools.

We also need to give more books. We had Ten Books with us at the start of the event and by the end of the visitation, we had gifted Four of them to students.

It was a great opportunity for LRF, the students and the school,  to celebrate World Book Day together. It was a remarkable and successful visit.

I, therefore, believe it is a good start to a great partnership that will benefit the school, the students and our nation as a whole.
