Session Summary

The program commenced at 8:05 a.m., with Mrs. Olabisi Adegoke introducing the Literary Renaissance Foundation (LRF) to the students. She explained that “Literary” is gotten from “literature,” relating to reading and writing, while “Renaissance” signifies a revival or reawakening, and the aim of the foundation is to reawaken the reading culture in the hearts of the youth. Mrs. Adegoke also shared that the foundation plans to return to the school to establish a book club where students will be taught how to improve their reading skills.

To engage the students, Mrs. Adegoke invited six students from various classes to read a few lines from selected books. Following each reading, she asked the students questions about the text. Those who responded accurately were gifted the books they had read from. Due to time constraints, four students were able to participate in this reading activity.

In addition, an extra book was awarded to a student who correctly answered a question about the full meaning of LRF. The program concluded at 11:15 a.m.

Challenges Faced

  1. Limited Volunteers: Only three volunteers were present, making it challenging to manage the large number of students effectively.
  2. Venue Constraints: The session was held on the assembly ground, as there was no hall available to accommodate all the students. Additionally, the absence of teachers during the session resulted in occasional disruptions and difficulty in maintaining order.

Conclusion

Overall, the session was engaging, and many more students expressed interest in reading. However, time constraints limited full participation. The event demonstrated a strong interest in reading among students and laid a promising foundation for future engagements.
