LRF Engages Students at Abadina Junior College Ibadan

The Ibadan Outreach arm of the Literary Renaissance Foundation (LRF) began its activities for the year on February 7, 2024, at the Abadina Junior School, University of Ibadan.

The Principal, staff, and students of the school welcomed the LRF team.

Mrs Olabisi, the team leader and moderator of the event, was there to educate the students on the importance of reading. Other team members who joined her were Prof. Oyinkan Tasie of the Tolulope Library, Akinyemi Abraham, Adeleke Oluwatimileyin, Chinyere Nwokike, Funmilayo Makinde, and other well-wishers.

Mrs Olabisi introduced the LRF foundation to the students and stressed the need to cultivate a good reading culture, which was the main theme of the event.

Mr. Abraham Akinyemi, a member of the LRF Outreach, spoke about the vision and goals of LRF.

He highlighted the following objectives of LRF:

  • To develop leaders who are avid readers
  • To promote reading in our local communities and around the world
  • To help young people everywhere acquire a habit of reading
  • To create a network that facilitates the sharing of reading materials.

Mr Adeleke Oluwatimileyin, the third speaker, addressed the students on the key benefits of reading, such as:

  • Reading enhances your reading skills and vocabulary
  • Good readers become great leaders
  • Reading improves your communication skills
  • Reading enables you to achieve your goals

The guest speaker Prof. Oyinkansola Tasie and his team arrived at the venue and were welcomed and introduced by Mrs Olabisi.

Prof. Oyinkansola Tasie is a Professor of Law in Michigan, USA, and the founder of the Tolulope Book Club.

He interacted with the students and explained the significance of the LRF partnership with the Tolulope Book Club, which aims to expose students to the knowledge of reading. He also stated that reading can make a person more knowledgeable.

Prof. Oyinkansola Tasie proceeded to announce that ten lucky students would receive free access to the Tolulope Library.

Mr. Abraham Akinyemi read a short passage from a book titled Banner in the Sky by James Ramsey Ullman. After reading the book, he asked questions based on what the speakers had said. Some lucky winners received pens and storybooks. Ten lucky winners received passes to the Tolulope Book Club and other gifts.

The LRF is grateful to the Ibadan Outreach Team led by Hajiya Olabisi Olasupo Aladuke for their visit to Abadina College and their engagement with the kids on the importance of developing a sustainable reading culture for personal and career growth.

The Literary Renaissance Foundation also appreciate our donors for this outreach:
